When Blayne reached out to us about a month ago, she wanted an elegant bedroom refresh with a subtle hint of Moroccan influence. The brief was simple: create a warm, sophisticated space that felt both refined and slightly exotic. We provided a design concept and a mood board, and to our delight she moved quickly—putting the plan into action with great taste and excellent results.
Blayne wrote to tell us how it went:
My room is finished and it looks fantastic—better than I imagined. I followed the design plan closely, though I found similar chocolate curtains at JC Penney for half the price and used a slightly different medium brown for the accent wall behind the bed. Many of the pictures on the walls are the same pieces I had before; I simply trimmed them down and put them into new frames. I love the idea of using eight matching frames on the facing walls. It allowed me to display a variety of images while keeping the look cohesive because the frames are consistent. My husband and I are thrilled with how it turned out! Are you two ready to tackle our living room and kitchen next? Thank you so much for your help! — Blayne
To give context, below is the original “before” image that captured the room’s split personality prior to the makeover:

The mood board and design direction we created focused on rich, layered textures, warm neutrals with deep chocolate accents, and subtle Moroccan-inspired patterns to add character without overwhelming the space. The plan emphasized balance—combining traditional bedroom coziness with global touches for a collected, grown-up look.
After Blayne implemented the plan, we received her photos of the finished room. The “after” images show a transformed space that feels inviting and well-curated. Key updates include the chocolate-toned curtains that anchor the windows, a softened medium-brown accent wall behind the bed that adds depth, and a cohesive gallery treatment using matching frames to create visual unity across the room.

What stands out is how small, strategic choices produced a big overall change. Reframing existing art allowed Blayne to reuse pieces she loved while giving them a fresh context. The consistent frame style ties disparate images together, creating an artful gallery wall effect without clutter. Selecting deep chocolate curtains and a medium-brown accent wall introduced a richer palette that reads sophisticated and cozy, complementing the bedding and accessories. The Moroccan-inspired elements—subtle patterning, layered textiles, and artisanal textures—add an exotic note that feels intentional rather than theme-driven.
Design updates like these offer practical lessons for anyone looking to refresh a bedroom on a budget: shop strategically for key textiles (curtains, bedding), reuse and reframe existing artwork to save money, and choose an accent wall color that adds depth without dominating the room. Small changes executed with a clear vision can dramatically elevate a space.
We’re thrilled Blayne is happy with her new bedroom, and we appreciate her quick follow-through and thoughtful adaptations of the plan. It’s always rewarding to see a design concept come to life in a way that reflects the homeowner’s personality. We’d happily stay a night at Casa Blayne—her room now looks like a peaceful, stylish retreat.
Update: We no longer have the capacity to take on commissioned, one-off mood boards. Instead, we focus on creating general inspiration boards and content that can help more people plan their own makeovers. If our availability changes in the future, we will announce it broadly.
