We all recognize that deflated feeling when a big project or renovation loses its momentum. How can you recapture the enthusiasm you had at the start? We’ve been wrestling with that at the beach house recently, so in this episode we share five practical ways to overcome project fatigue. With spring here, it’s also peak season for routine home maintenance, so we offer a simple system to ensure you never forget those recurring tasks again. We also reveal a fast trick for powering through smaller lingering to-dos from your list, describe a rediscovered date-night idea, and respond to a call-out about a decorating trend we unintentionally helped spread.

What’s New

- We buy air filters in bulk — a basic, no-frills dust filter is what works for our home since we don’t have allergies or heavy pet-hair concerns. We keep different sizes on hand for each floor so replacements are always available.
- On the podcast we mentioned a subscription filter service as a convenient option. A similar result can be achieved with many online retailers’ auto-delivery features, which schedule regular shipments and apply discounts so filters arrive when you need them.
- For clarity: the filters shown in some photos are for our HVAC unit in the garage, not the decorative vent pictured. The garage system is less photogenic but is where those filters belong.
Updates
- We revisit the open-concept bathroom debate in Episode #88, where listeners weighed in on pros and cons.
- We also discussed the quirky “backwards book” trend in Episode #85 — a trend we unintentionally participated in with our first book back in 2012. Looking back at those pages made us laugh and cringe at the same time.
- For paint-curious listeners, our earlier conversation about Consumer Reports’ paint rankings appears in Episode #81.
Project Fatigue

- This kitchen remodel was a long haul that tested our patience more than once. Projects that stretch on can erode momentum, but the end result makes the effort worthwhile — and the lessons learned stick with you.
- At the beach house we’ve had both triumphs and setbacks: built-in pantry shelves and bunk beds were big wins, while moments like nearly having to remove those bunk beds or dealing with a leaky bathtub reminded us that setbacks are part of the process.

- One simple strategy that helped was reviewing our “before” photos to measure real progress. Looking back at the original condition of a room makes it easier to appreciate how far it’s come and restores motivation to continue.

We’re Digging
- Sherry has been praising a pair of shoes that feel like socks and are surprisingly machine-washable. She chose black for versatility, though they come in other colors and toe shapes if you prefer a different fit. They’ve been comfortable and practical for everyday wear.

If you’re trying to remember a product or resource we mentioned on previous shows, we keep a master list of items we’ve recommended in past episodes so you can quickly find anything we’ve been digging.
We’re grateful to Agility Bed for sponsoring this episode. They offered a promotional discount for listeners on mattress purchases, and we appreciate support from partners that help keep the podcast running.
Thanks for listening — we appreciate you following along on the ups and downs of projects, maintenance, and everyday life at home.
