I’m completely smitten with the latest addition to our bedroom: a linen-look ottoman trimmed with nailheads that instantly elevated the space.

At first glance it reads like an upscale pouf, but it was actually a TJ Maxx find priced at $119. That’s the most we’ve spent on an ottoman so far—our other ottomans were much cheaper—but this one felt worth it. The shape, the fabric, and those nailhead accents sold me instantly. I resisted when I first saw it with a friend, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I brought John back to the store that evening to get his opinion.
We have a simple rule when buying home decor: know where the item will go before you buy it. In this case I had two potential spots in mind—the ottoman could tuck under the console table in the living room or sit beside the armchair in the master bedroom. I also reminded John that we could return it if neither spot worked, so there was no pressure. He liked it right away, and soon we were carrying our new pouf into Casa Petersik.
Previously, our bedroom had a DIY pedestal table: a small wooden pedestal topped with a tabletop from a big-box store and painted glossy white. It was an improvement over the older arrangement, but a few things felt off. The table’s height didn’t sit quite right next to the low leather armchair, and an exposed black fan wire near the head of the bed always looked messy.

We moved the pedestal table into the den—so stay tuned for those photos—and replaced it with the plush new ottoman. The difference was immediate. The ottoman is the perfect height for the chair now; it no longer competes with the arm’s height, and it feels much more proportional. The fan, which previously blew air uncomfortably above our heads, is now aimed more directly at our bed. Small changes like that make summer nights more pleasant.
The ottoman’s lower profile and smaller surface area also help the room breathe. Because it doesn’t dominate the corner like the taller table did, the space feels a little larger and less crowded—an important gain in a compact bedroom. The hidden black fan wire is gone from sight, which tidies the room and removes a distraction from the overall aesthetic.

And those nailheads—honestly, they’re the icing on the cake. The metallic trim adds a subtle edge that feels classic and tailored, giving the linen-like fabric a hint of polish without feeling fussy. The texture and tone of the upholstery pair well with the existing leather chair and neutral palette, creating a layered, collected look that feels effortless.

Small decorative details often make the biggest difference. I’ve always been partial to elements like nailhead trim, classic hardware, and thoughtful fabric choices—things that bring personality and finish to a room. The ottoman is a reminder that the right accessory can solve practical issues (like scale and cord visibility) while also enhancing style.
What about you? Are there decorative details you can’t resist—nailhead trim, curtain grommets, x-backs, beveled glass, or any other finishing touches that make you fall for a piece? Share which small accents make a big impact in your home; they’re the little things that often bring a room to life.
