Laundry Nook Makeover: Bamboo Blinds for a Cozy Look

[ad_1]

Here’s the washer and dryer update many of you have been asking about. Yesterday our beautiful front-loading washer and dryer arrived. Due to a mix-up at Lowe’s—where the original new units we purchased were sold to someone else—we were given the store floor models instead. Despite the unexpected switch, the appliances arrived in near-perfect condition. The dryer is flawless, and the washer has only a tiny scratch on the top that’s barely visible without close inspection. In short, the floor models were essentially as good as new.

Beyond their condition, there was a financial upside. Because we accepted the floor models, we saved additional money on top of our original discount. In the end we saved about $500 on the pair, which was a pleasant surprise. The floor-model discount reduced the final price significantly, and according to the store, those savings were extreme—so much so that it felt like we walked away with an exceptional deal. For anyone shopping for a washer and dryer, especially front-loading models, this experience is a reminder to consider floor models: they can be well cared for and priced very competitively.

We didn’t stop at the discount. After delivery, we went back to Lowe’s to speak with a manager about warranty options. Since the floor models had been on display and we hadn’t originally requested those specific units, we were concerned about any hidden wear from showroom use. We explained that concern and asked if the store could extend additional protection. Our goal was reasonable: a compromise such as coverage on one appliance or a partial contribution toward an extended warranty. To our surprise, the manager agreed to offer a four-year warranty on both appliances.

Technically the warranty wasn’t free—the store computer system prevented a zero-dollar transaction—but the manager worked the numbers and reduced the charge to about $13. We were thrilled to accept a full four-year protection plan on both the washer and dryer for that small amount. A comprehensive warranty like this provides peace of mind against mechanical problems and unexpected repairs, which is especially valuable for appliances that once lived on the showroom floor.

With the appliances in place, we finished up the laundry nook. A fresh coat of paint brightened the space and some new bamboo blinds added texture and warmth. The transformation is subtle but effective: what was a rough demo area is now a tidy, functional laundry space. The next small project is to conceal some of the unattractive electrical outlets and cords on the back wall for a cleaner finished look.

Overall, the experience turned out better than expected. A showroom mix-up led to near-new floor models, significant savings, and an unexpectedly generous extended warranty. If you’re in the market for a washer and dryer, it’s worth asking about floor models, checking them carefully, and negotiating warranty coverage. You may find a similarly surprising combination of condition, price, and protection.
