Inside Our R. Home: A Cozy Family House Tour

[ad_1]

We’re excited to share that our brief moment in the local spotlight has been extended slightly thanks to the latest issue of R. Home magazine, the popular home and garden companion to our hometown’s well-known Richmond Magazine. The feature gives a warm, local nod to our story and the work we’ve been doing under the Young House Love name.

We first heard from R. Home back in April when their team reached out to interview us and arrange a professional photoshoot. Since that first contact we’ve been looking forward to the issue with a mix of excitement and nerves. The magazine’s July/August edition has finally arrived, and seeing the layout in glossy print felt a bit surreal. The story chronicles the early days of Young House Love, explaining how the project began and how it evolved into the blog and creative outlet it is today.

The feature includes several polished photographs from the shoot as well as some professional images of a few of our favorite before-and-after projects. You’ll find shots of the sunroom, the den, the master bedroom and, of course, the kitchen. Those renovation and decorating snapshots are the parts of the story we most enjoy sharing—showing the transformation from concept to finished space. For us, the appeal of these projects comes from the combination of practical problem-solving and personal expression: making a house feel like a welcoming, functional home.

Sherry admitted she worried for two months about one particular pose from the shoot—she kept fretting that it might look odd in the photo—but in print everything came together nicely and the images capture the warmth and personality we try to bring to each project. The magazine layout highlights not only the visuals but also the narrative of how we juggled DIY projects, budget considerations and everyday life while working to create comfortable, stylish rooms.

If you’d like to read the complete article in PDF form, the magazine made a copy available online. For local readers who prefer print, the issue is stocked on the stands at several neighborhood retailers including Kroger, Barnes & Noble and Ukrop’s. Holding the glossy issue in hand adds a different dimension to the feature—paper, texture and scale that aren’t always apparent on a screen—and it was rewarding to flip through the pages and see our work represented with professional photography and thoughtful writing.

To anyone discovering Young House Love because of the R. Home piece: welcome. This space is where we share projects, ideas and the practical lessons we learn while renovating and decorating our home. We hope visitors find useful tips, honest accounts of what worked and what didn’t, and inspiration for their own spaces. If you’re local, we’d love to run into you around town—don’t be shy to say hello if you recognize us from the article. We enjoy meeting readers in person and hearing about your projects and experiences.

Finally, thanks to the R. Home editorial and photography teams for the thoughtful feature and the care they took in telling our story. Being included in a local home and design magazine is meaningful to us because it reflects the community that supports our work. We appreciate every reader who follows along and every neighbor who lends encouragement as we continue to share projects, lessons and a few design experiments along the way. Stay tuned here for more updates, tutorials and before-and-after reveals that celebrate making a house feel truly like home.
