Something Big Is Coming: Don’t Miss the Announcement

[ad_1]

Sherry and I decided to give ourselves a slightly early Christmas gift this year: a big home improvement project. It’s a plan we’ve been imagining for some time, and now we’re finally making it happen. While the work is still underway and we want to keep the final result a surprise, we thought it would be fun to share a daily clue leading up to next week’s full reveal. When the project is finished, we’ll post the full “before and after” photos so you can see the transformation from start to finish.

Today’s clue is the photo below. It might look like a Christmas bush at first glance, but it’s actually our Christmas tree being taken down a week before the holiday. We had to dismantle it early for practical reasons as we prepared the house for the renovation, and couldn’t resist snapping a quick picture during the process. The image captures a small, mundane moment that hints at the larger activity behind the scenes: clearing space, organizing, and making way for something new.

Preparing for a renovation often means making compromises and adjusting traditions. For us, that meant boxing up decorations earlier than usual, rearranging furniture, and creating pathways for work to be done without damaging cherished items. Those small sacrifices are part of the process when you want a smooth, efficient makeover. The early tree disassembly was one visible sign that the house was transitioning from festive comfort to a temporary construction zone.

Over the next few days, we’ll offer additional clues about the scope and nature of the project. Each hint will be small—intended to tease rather than reveal—so you can enjoy the guessing game with us. We’ll share details about the order of tasks, what we’re prioritizing, and the design goals we hope to achieve, but we’ll keep the final layout and complete visuals under wraps until the reveal. If you enjoy home renovation stories, the sequence of clues will give you a sense of the planning and preparation that goes into a significant update.

Why keep the project a secret until the end? There are a few reasons. First, progress photos taken at the right moments make the final reveal more satisfying: the contrast between “before” and “after” becomes more dramatic when you’ve seen only small hints in between. Second, holding back specifics allows us to remain flexible during the build—design choices can evolve, and we may alter plans as unexpected opportunities or constraints appear. Finally, the reveal itself is a shared moment we’d like to celebrate with friends, family, and anyone following along.

Even though we’re not disclosing the full plan yet, we’re happy to share some of what this process has involved so far: space clearing, protective coverings on floors and furniture, careful removal and storage of sentimental items, and coordinating schedules with contractors and suppliers. Those tasks aren’t glamorous, but they’re essential for a successful renovation. Taking the time to protect what matters and to organize the workflow saves time and stress later on.

We’re excited about how the project will reshape our living space and improve how we use the home. Whether the end result is increased functionality, better lighting, fresh finishes, or simply a more cohesive look, the goal is to create a space that feels right for our everyday life. We hope the reveal will inspire others contemplating similar updates, showing that thoughtful planning and staged preparation can lead to beautiful outcomes.

So, any guesses yet? Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s hint—each clue will add a little more context and bring you closer to the big reveal. We can’t wait to share the transformation and the full set of before-and-after photos next week. Thanks for following along, and feel free to leave your predictions. We’ll see how many of you get close!
