Window Shopping in Savannah: Top Streets, Boutiques & Cafés

[ad_1]

We promised to share our Savannah shopping discoveries, and here’s the recap. After popping into nearly every home décor shop on Broughton Street with a camera in hand (we made ourselves obvious tourists), our top pick was The Paris Market & Brocante. Many items felt more inspirational than practical—some pieces carried price tags well above what most of us would spend—but the imaginative displays and wide variety of goods were utterly inspiring and full of DIY potential. Here are the highlights we couldn’t stop thinking about.

The oyster shell chandelier stopped us in our tracks. Its organic texture and layered shells felt like wearable art, and while the retail price put a DIY project squarely on my radar, the idea of stringing shells on wire to recreate the look felt completely attainable. It’s the kind of statement lighting that proves natural materials can be unexpectedly luxurious.

Nearby we found a beautiful driftwood-framed mirror and a clever coffee table made from a basket, casters, and a glass top—simple elements combined into something fresh and functional. I mentally added driftwood and oyster shells to my “must-find” list: both materials lend warmth and texture to interiors and are perfect for budget-friendly projects.

One delicate pendant shade made from twigs really fired up my DIY imagination. Rather than ordering supplies, I realized I could gather twigs from the yard and secure them between two metal hoops with wire or construction adhesive to create a rustic drum shade. If only there were more hours in the day to tackle every project inspired by a single shopping trip. I also couldn’t resist handling some of the natural curiosities on display—a dramatic nautilus shell and an oversized ostrich egg—feeling a bit like I’d wandered into a living coffee-table book about natural history.

Miraculously, I walked out with an intact wallet, though I left with a head full of project plans and plenty of photos to refer back to. Continuing along Broughton Street, we discovered a charming specialty shop: The Savannah Bee Company’s Honey House.

Inside, rows of gourmet honeys in flavors like orange blossom and tupelo invited tasting at a little honey bar, where visitors could sample spoons of honey or try raw honeycomb served with cheese and crackers. It was a sensory delight and yes—there were sticky fingers by the time we left.

Another standout was a historic shop called V & J Duncan, packed with old maps, botanical prints, and century-old illustrations. The shop felt like a treasure trove for anyone who loves paper ephemera: antique maps, fern and orchid drawings, and boxes of postcards organized by location. We enjoyed digging through the drawers labeled with familiar places, finding postcards and photographs that felt like small connections to other cities and moments in time. We left without purchases but spent a long while poking through piles of prints and saying hello to the owner’s friendly Cocker Spaniels at the door.

We also came across a whimsical souvenir shop filled with gag gifts and novelty frames that made us smile—some frames even contained tongue-in-cheek photos of cats, which added a playful touch. The small details and sense of humor in the displays made browsing feel like a mini adventure.

On Whitaker Street we explored more furniture and antique shops, including One Fish Two Fish, a boutique with a striking wall of sunburst mirrors and gilded, hollowed tree-trunk planters. The idea of clustering round mirrors into a dramatic gallery wall is a simple decorating trick that creates instant impact, and the planters suggested an easy spray-paint or gold-leaf project for upcycling yard stump material.

One tempting item was an oyster shell votive holder with beautiful ruffled texture; the price made it a candidate for a future DIY remake. Natural elements like shells make charming accents when used in unconventional ways, and recreating them at home can be both budget-friendly and uniquely personal.

A few items nearly convinced me to buy on the spot, including a round white ceramic palm leaf platter that haunted me the next morning. Even though I resisted, Savannah’s stores left a lasting impression and plenty of inspiration for future decorating and craft projects.

We enjoyed our getaway and are already plotting the next road trip filled with more window shopping, creative ideas, and DIY experiments.
