2016 House Tour: Inside Our Home

[ad_1]

Now that our kitchen remodel is finished, we thought it was the perfect moment for a long-overdue video house tour. Our previous tour was nearly three years ago and showed very little progress since it was filmed only seven months after we moved in. With the first floor now looking dramatically different, we pulled out the camera and walked through the house the way we usually do: John films while I chatter non-stop. If you watch closely, you might spot two frames that currently hold a sideways stock photo of a stranger—our family pictures are on order, and for now that girl in the hat gives us a good laugh.

If the video below doesn’t load in your reader, try viewing it on YouTube where it’s also available.

We also filmed the upstairs, which still has a few projects in progress. In the upstairs tour you’ll hear about the two bathrooms we haven’t renovated yet—particularly the master bath, which will need a full overhaul eventually. We’ve also got some smaller tasks to finish, such as completing a partially finished wall in our daughter’s room and addressing a handful of other touch-ups. Apologies for the odd dark lines that show up in the hall bath footage—our camera struggled with that lighting.

If the upstairs video doesn’t appear in your feed reader, try opening it on YouTube for a reliable view.

Below we’ve included links to specific posts that explain many of the projects shown in the tours. Those posts provide step-by-step details, material lists, and paint colors for each space. We also keep a photo gallery with before-and-after pictures that shows the full progression of the house, and our Shop Our House page lists paint colors and sources for each room to help you recreate any look you like.

  • Kitchen Remodel
  • Living Room Built-Ins
  • Laying Out Our Office
  • Stair Runner Install
  • Upstairs Hallway (Fancy Molding)
  • Our Bedroom Frame Gallery
  • Our Bathroom’s “Temporary” Stenciled Floor
  • Built-Ins In Our Son’s Room
  • The Evolution of Our Daughter’s Room
  • Laundry Room Reveal
  • Bonus Room Reveal

We hope these tours give a clear sense of how the house has come together. The first floor is largely complete and reflects the design choices we made during the kitchen remodel and the living room built-ins, while the second floor is a work in progress with a few rooms that will be tackled over time. If you’re curious about paint, finishes, or sources for the items you see, check the Shop Our House page and our photo gallery for up-to-date information. Thanks for following along—home projects are always ongoing, and we’re excited to keep sharing each step of the journey.

Note: Additional photos and detailed updates about the Living Room, Dining Room, Powder Room, Guest Bedroom, and Hall Bathroom appear in our second book, which includes more background and styling tips.
