This week I finally tackled a small, satisfying project: rehanging three floating vases that had been tucked away since our move. They originally belonged by the kitchen in our first house and have been living in the playroom ever since, contributing to the clutter. I pulled them out, tapped three nails into the guest bathroom wall, and gave them a new spot that keeps them off the floor and brings a bit of unexpected charm to that space.

The vases are doing the job for now with simple grocery-store blooms. It’s a temporary solution — when those flowers fade I’ll swap in something more lasting, like leafy branches or foraged greenery from the yard. Small, low-effort touches like this feel big when they help clear the playroom floor and make a room feel a little more considered.
This guest bathroom is one of the spaces in the house that hasn’t seen much attention yet. We’ve been focused on a major kitchen project, so other rooms have just been waiting in the wings. Still, nudging little tasks off the list—hanging artwork, installing hooks, or in this case adding decorative vases—gradually improves the overall flow of the home. It’s mostly about momentum: small wins add up and keep the house from feeling like a perpetual jumble.
Tulips have firmly claimed a spot on my list of favorite flowers. They’re simple, cheerful, and bright enough to lift a mood without demanding a lot of fuss. I only admitted it recently, but once you notice how well they perform in a casual arrangement, it’s hard not to reach for them again and again.
In the corner of one of the photos you can spot a large mirror that belongs above the guest room dresser. Our place is still a little disorganized from recent book photoshoots and other projects, so oversized items are often parked in temporary locations. One day these pieces will all return to their intended spots, but in the meantime I’ve been focusing on clearing clutter where I can. Rehanging the vases was one of those easy wins that makes a difference without a big time investment.
Taking photos of the tiny bathroom from different angles turned out to be oddly entertaining. I even laid on the floor to get a different perspective and pretend I was directing a photoshoot. Sometimes creative energy sparks from the simplest tasks—especially when the larger, more time-consuming projects are still underway. Little styling experiments keep things interesting and help pass the time between major renovations.
If you’re working on your own home, consider small, manageable updates that move items off the floor and add a touch of personality to overlooked rooms. A trio of vases, a new hook, a lampshade swap, or a simple mirror adjustment can all make a bathroom or hallway feel more intentional. Not every project needs to be a full remodel; often the small, thoughtful details make a space feel truly lived-in and loved.
What small projects are you checking off your list right now? Do you have rooms that are waiting for attention, or stashes of items that need a home? I’d love to hear about the little fixes that are making a big difference where you live.
Psst — we also announced a tile giveaway winner this week. Check the original post to see if it’s you.
