House Crashing: Luxe and Lovely, Part 2

A Stunning Cherry Blossom Mural Transforms an Entryway

Do you remember Stacie? She lives downtown in a beautiful home we had the pleasure of helping decorate. We’ve featured several rooms from her house before, including a bedroom and dining room refresh, and we’ve even shown a full house-crashing tour of the place. Today we’re revisiting her home because her boyfriend, Jeff, painted a breathtaking cherry blossom mural in the entryway that completely elevates the space.

The entryway began as a simple, neutral area with great architectural bones and a clear potential for something memorable. Given the home’s existing design—dramatic living spaces, oversized windows framed with rich draperies, and lovely French doors—this wall begged for a focal point that felt both organic and refined.

Jeff, a full-time artist, designed a custom cherry blossom branch specifically for this wall. He worked closely with Stacie to refine the sketch in Photoshop so they could visualize how the composition would fit the scale and flow of the space. Once they were happy with the digital mockup, he projected the design onto the wall to trace an accurate outline and ensure the proportions and placement complemented the stairs and chandelier.

Using projection to transfer the design allowed Jeff to scale the mural precisely and to map it so it would “creep” up the staircase, making the artwork feel built for that environment rather than merely applied to it. After tracing the outline, he began to paint, layering detail and depth with steady, practiced strokes. He also left intentional cutouts and white space that create a sense of light and dimension—tiny highlights on the branches give the impression that the chandelier above is casting light directly onto the blossom tips.

The result is a mural that reads as elegant and sophisticated rather than cartoonish. Small round buds that started as penciled marks became delicate, almost star-like blossoms with subtle shading and soft highlights. The branches show varied texture and small slivers of unpainted or lighter-painted areas that suggest reflection and volume. Viewed in photos the mural looks fantastic, but seeing it in person reveals how the scale, texture, and ambient light interact to make it truly spectacular.

This transformation continues a pattern throughout Stacie’s home of thoughtful, high-impact interventions—custom art, tailored textiles, and well-considered color choices—that enhance each room’s character. The cherry blossom mural works especially well because it respects the home’s existing architecture and enhances circulation and sightlines, drawing the eye naturally up the stairway and toward the adjoining rooms.

For anyone thinking about a mural, this project offers a useful model: design with the space first, test the composition digitally, and then use projection or other transfer methods to ensure accuracy. Working with an experienced muralist who understands scale and light makes a big difference in achieving a finished piece that feels integrated and professional. Are you considering a mural for your home? Think about the function and mood of the room, whether you want a realistic or stylized subject, and how the piece will interact with natural and artificial light. Entryways, stairwells, and large blank walls are ideal candidates for murals because they benefit from vertical movement and scale.

Stacie’s entryway mural is a reminder that a single, well-executed artistic intervention can transform the tone of an entire house. It’s also a great example of collaboration between homeowner and artist, where careful planning and creative vision result in something memorable and unique.

Psst—We’re always looking for beautiful homes to feature. If you or someone you know has a home that’s ready to be showcased, send us photos and a short description and we may stop by if we’re in your area.
