Our podcast has officially hit the milestone of legal drinking age — happy 21st episode, YHLHAP! Welcome to the show notes for Episode #21 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. This week we tackle one of the questions we get more than any other: how on earth do you make progress on home projects when you have kids underfoot? It’s a question we’ve asked ourselves in many moments of frazzled desperation, and today we share four practical strategies we use to balance parenting and DIY without feeling like nothing ever gets finished. John confesses to a major kitchen-renovation mistake, Sherry tries her hand at a guys-vs-girls Pinterest guessing game, and we bond over the curious overlap between handcrafts and zombies.

What’s New
- Instead of showing a washed-away gas-line marking photo (not very compelling), here’s a drone shot a neighbor took right after I finished digging by hand around the areas that might have crossed the gas line. You can also spot how much the lawn needs water — the side yard has basically turned into moss city. There are a couple more trenches like this in the front yard and another long run down the side.

That’s Embarrassing
- Confession time: I accidentally ordered a full shipping crate of backsplash tile for our kitchen. It felt mortifying in the moment, and we share the details — and the lessons learned — in the episode.

What’s Not
- We discussed Pinterest trends and how men and women use the platform differently — the official Pinterest blog post breaks down those search patterns further.
- Side note: Pinterest’s blog is called “Oh, That’s Pinteresting!” which we couldn’t resist mentioning.
- We also chat about the concept of a “barndominium,” including the famous remodel done by Chip & Joanna Gaines on their show.
- And because we couldn’t help ourselves, we bring up snackadiums — those elaborate game-day displays that have become a thing.

We’re Digging
If you want to try ironic or modern cross-stitch, here are a few of the patterns and shops we mentioned in the episode.
- Sherry’s LaCroix can cross-stitch now hangs in our foyer; we also referenced Walking Dead Daryl designs and some NSFW options from independent stitch artists.

- The Stitch Mill has a wide selection of patterns, including tool-themed and terrarium-themed designs — most patterns are affordably priced.

- We also pointed listeners toward Family Stitch’s adorable stitched family portraits, a fun and modern take on heirloom needlework.
Psst — Looking for something we referenced in an earlier episode but can’t remember where? Here’s a master list of everything we’ve dug up across past shows.
