Maybe I’m clinging to the last warm days of summer, or maybe I’m yearning for a sunroom refresh (ours hasn’t been touched since we moved in). Or perhaps it’s simply that Jenna Sue has a real talent for bright, livable makeovers—you may remember her entryway transformation. Whatever the reason, take a look at this sunny, cheerful update. Here’s her note about the project:
Hello again! Our sunroom used to have plain white walls, green trim, old carpet and a sagging ceiling.
We removed the old ceiling, added insulation and installed humidity-resistant drywall, which I painted a soft light blue. We upgraded the lighting with recessed fixtures and added built-in speakers for music. The carpet was replaced with gray “wood” plank tile that gives the room the look of wood but holds up much better in a sunroom environment.
To make the room more welcoming for overnight guests, we purchased a couple of Brimnes daybeds from Ikea; arranged together they create a cozy daybed sectional for lounging or sleeping. I also built a simple rustic coffee table and a matching console table to anchor the seating area and provide storage and display space.
Small finishing touches—an assortment of pillows, a no-sew slipcover for an older armchair, and thoughtfully placed artwork—pulled the whole space together. The combination of durable materials like tile and humidity-resistant drywall with handmade pieces and soft accessories created a comfortable, stylish space that’s perfect for summer gatherings.
Thanks for looking! — Jenna Sue
Thanks for sharing, Jenna Sue. This reveal makes us a little envious of anyone lucky enough to live where they can use a sunroom year-round. We appreciate the practical construction details—removing and replacing the ceiling, adding insulation, choosing moisture-resistant drywall, and installing tile—as much as the DIY touches like the slipcover and custom furniture. Those choices balance durability with warmth and personality, which is exactly what a successful sunroom makeover should do.
If you want more details on the individual projects—like how she built the coffee table or made the hidden litter box for cat owners—be sure to visit Jenna Sue’s blog for step-by-step posts and photos. Her posts typically include project measurements, materials lists, and helpful tips that make it easier to recreate similar features in your own home.
Our favorite moments from the room: the paired Ikea daybeds that form a comfy sectional—perfect for lounging with friends—the realistic gray wood-look tile that grounds the space visually, and the light blue ceiling that softens the light and gives the room a calm, airy feel. And of course, the resident black cat makes the whole space feel lived-in and loved.
If you’re planning a sunroom makeover, consider these practical guidelines inspired by this project: choose moisture-resistant building materials, pick flooring that mimics wood but stands up to humidity, layer in soft textiles and slipcovers for easy cleaning, and incorporate multi-use furniture so the space can function both as seating and as a guest sleeping area. Thoughtful lighting and built-in sound can also transform a simple sunroom into a comfortable entertaining zone.
