When Jaime of Prudent Baby sent photos of her charming Los Angeles home, we were eager to visit for a House Crashing feature. With a newborn at home, we opted to tour her space virtually instead. The exterior is inviting and full of curb appeal, setting the tone for the warm, well-curated interior within.
Meet the homeowners: Jaime, her husband Carleton, and their daughter Scarlet. Their home blends collected pieces, thrift finds and thoughtful DIY projects to create a cozy, lived-in look that still feels polished.
Entryway and Breakfast Nook
Just inside the door, homemade silhouette plates—an easy DIY—hang as a sweet personal touch. A distressed wood chest by the window, found for just $35 at a flea market, provides character and storage. Nearby a petite breakfast nook offers a relaxed spot for morning coffee and includes a child-sized kitchen area for Scarlet, making the space both practical and playful.
Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen opens to the sunny breakfast nook and flows into the dining room. Glass-front cabinet doors keep the kitchen feeling open and airy, avoiding the heaviness of solid wood fronts. A bright orange mixer adds a cheerful accent. The adjacent dining area mixes high and low pieces: a clearance mirror frame Jaime found for $15 at HomeGoods, a secondhand buffet from a flea market, and budget-friendly Louis Ghost chairs sourced via eBay. The overall effect is lively, eclectic and refined.
Living Room and Office Corner
The living room is a collection of curated finds—colorful upholstery, thrifted treasures and a balance of upscale and casual elements. Bookshelves brimming with reading material and a toy-filled basket by the side table show the room is genuinely used and loved. A standout piece is a large gray tone-on-tone cabinet Jaime tracked down on clearance from Anthropologie. It provides generous storage and adds vertical interest to the white wall next to the big picture window. A small, light-filled office nook in the background uses airy furniture that keeps the corner from feeling heavy, making it a pleasant workspace within the living area.
Guest Bathroom
The guest bathroom feels crisp and welcoming. Jaime added a mirrored backsplash across from the pedestal sink, which reflects light and enlarges the space visually. A small stool that Jaime DIYed gives Scarlet the boost she needs and reinforces the home’s blend of functional design and handmade charm. A glass shower door contributes to the open, clean look.
Primary Bedroom
The bedroom features another handmade piece: Jaime crafted a king-size headboard herself, upholstering it in deep indigo fabric. She paired it with a lush red wall color for a dramatic, boutique-hotel vibe—unexpected, stylish and surprisingly high-end. Simple West Elm end tables and handmade pillowcases complete the room’s layered, personal aesthetic.
Main Bathroom
Light floods the main bathroom, giving it a bright, airy atmosphere. A classic handheld shower head and a clawfoot tub give the space vintage appeal, while a thrifted stool painted a sunny yellow adds a playful pop. Jaime installed a marble hex tile floor that elevates the room’s overall look—an elegant touch that balances the bathroom’s relaxed, lived-in feel.
Nursery
Scarlet’s nursery is one of the most joyful rooms in the house. Jaime completed many charming DIY projects here, from crocheted pennant garlands to window treatments and a spray-painted IKEA mirror above the crib. The room mixes practical items like an affordable crib and bookshelf with handmade textiles and playful accessories, creating a cozy, imaginative space tailored to a young child.
Sources and Style Notes
The house is a masterclass in mixing budget-friendly finds with selectively splurged items. Jaime credits flea markets, clearance sales, eBay and DIY for much of the home’s personality. Many pieces are repurposed or customized, showing how creativity and resourcefulness can achieve a curated, stylish result without overspending.
Thanks to Jaime for inviting us into her lovely Los Angeles home. From the impressive gray cabinet in the living room to the homemade silhouette plates in the entryway and the cheerful nursery, there’s a favorite in every corner. If you have a home that’s feature-ready, Jaime’s tour shows how small, thoughtful projects and smart sourcing can make a space feel uniquely yours.
